Guatemala Stove Project

The #1 cause of death in Guatemala is respiratory illness. One solution to this problem is to improve rural Guatemalans cooking methods. Currently they cook their meals over open fires. The walls and ceilings in their kitchens are covered with soot; one can only imagine what their lungs look like. We are currently building about 50 improved wood burning stoves with chimneys through the help of private donors and a USAID grant. The stoves will conserve firewood, thus helping Guatemala's deforestation problem, and improve the health of Guatemala's rural poor.
